Description:
1875 1ed Jules Verne From the Earth to the Moon Astronauts SciFi Space Gun ClubJules Verne's adventure novels are some of the most popular and famous works of literature of all time. Part of the illustrious 'Voyages Extraordinares' series, his book 'From the Earth to the Moon' is one of the most influential works of science-fiction of the 19th-century. It tells the story of American weapon makers attempting to build an enormous space gun big enough to launch people onto the moon! According to Barron, this book is
"the first interplanetary novel to focus on the technical and organizational preparations for the voyage, using the actual blast-off as a climax…one of the definitive foundation stones of the science fiction genre."
This first Hetzel edition was published in Paris.

Description:
[Los Angeles?]: Malcolm Stuart Productions, 1968. Ephemera. Very good. A comic Western screenplay by the writer who would give us The Exorcist a few years later. On the title page, Blatty is credited with the story and the screenplay, but the film was released as based on a novel by Frank O'Rourke. The film starred Zero Mostel and Kim Novak. 150 leaves, including an unnumbered stenographic department cover sheet and the title page, numbered to 144, with a number of combined and added leaves. The original version, dated 8/26/1968 and printed on light green paper, has been revised with sheets printed on varying colors of blue. Very good in goldenrod cardstock covers printed with the title, the producers, and the studio. Someone has written "Steno" on the cover in ink and there is a small number, 83, stamped above the date.

The Marvel Tales has a triangular piece missing from the upper corner of the back cover; the Crawford publication, in yellow wrappers, has some dampstaining to the bottom edge (not noticeable on the front cover), previous owner's name taped onto the title page. . First printing. A very scarce and fragile issue, primarily notable for containing the first appearance of Howard's "The Garden of Fear," the first story in the James Allison series. This second issue of the short-lived Marvel Tales series, published by William L. Crawford (who also owned a printing press) had 3 variant covers - in different colors and on different paper stock: this copy is orange with a green woodcut illustration and black lettering superimposed on the illustration. Jarrold & Sons, London, 1897. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. First Edition (first printing). 8vo. 254pp + [xviii] publisher's catalogue at the rear. Blue smooth weave cloth lettered in gilt and red, and decorated with gilt-stamped stars. Publisher's monogram blind-stamped to the rear board. David Gascoyne's copy, with his name and the date 1943 inked to the front free endpaper. Cloth discoloured at the backstrip. Front hinge tender at the half-title yet binding perfectly sound thereafter. Some darkening to the endpapers and pastedowns. A lovely crisp copy of an extremely uncommon science fiction novel: an account of a journey to an idyllic utopia on Venus, with a brief excursion to Mercury, written by a Bristol-based mechanical engineer. The first chapter, 'A Message from Mars', was originally published as a stand-alone short story in 'Cassell' magazine (1895), and was subsequently revised into this current form..
