Later published by Methuen and Co. Ltd. 1931. Pencil, pen and ink on paper. The image features Mole relaxing on the river bank, under the shade of some dock-leaves. The image measures 12 x 17 cm on a sheet measuring 16.5 x 26 cm. Signed with initials bottom right. Inscribed by the artist in pencil beneath the mount with the illustration title, book title and [incorrect] page number. The illustration appears on page 152 of the 1931 first Shepard illustrated edition of "The Wind in the Willows" in the chapter "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn". Exhibited: Chris Beetles, Ltd., The British Art of Illustration 1800-1997, number 303 under the title "Mole Lay Stretched on the Bank" (original catalogue included).
