Joanne (Kathleen) Rowling, Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone (1997), UK first edition, fourth printing, and 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets' (1998), UK first edition, seventh printing. Both books published by Bloomsbury in the first issued box set. Both volumes are signed by author J.K. Rowling on the respective half-title pages as shown. Chamber of Secrets is in addition inscribed to Johnny According to Philip Errington s J.K. Rowling: A Bibliogarphy (2017), the first Philosopher printing had a print run of only 500 copies; the second printing followed quickly with a run of 1,000 copies, followed by the third and fourth printing of 500 copies each only (p.4). Provenance: The signatures are consistant with how Rowling used to sign in 1998-99. Rowling did sign a few of those box sets for school children back in those years. The additional dedication by the author makes it easier to verify the signatures and handwriting. Condition: Philosopher is in near fine condition. It bears no previous owner s scribbles, no stamps, no bookplates, pages are clean. The boards front top corner has a tiny bump as shown. The dust jacket is NOT price clipped and a beautiful specimen, unfaded and showing the young wizard as called for. Chamber of Secrets is in fine condition The box is in near fine condition with only trivial shelf wear. This was the first box set that Bloomsbury published for the Harry Potter Saga. As more and more Harry Potters were published until 2007 the publisher eager to capitalise on Potter-mania isuued a new box set containing the latest book together with the volumes that had already been published. A nice set at fair value and genuinely signed by Rowling. Due to the extremely high value of signed UK first hardback first printings editions of The Philosopher s Stone , the early reprints have also become highly collectable and valuable. First and Fine

An early 18th edition paperback of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, paired with a first print hardback of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, both signed by J.K. Rowling on the dedication page at the City Varieties Music Hall in Leeds, July 1998. The books come with documented provenance, as featured in a comprehensive article in The Star newspaper. Additionally, this set includes a very rare 'Friend of Potter' button. These buttons were distributed by Bloomsbury in early 1998 exclusively to bookstore staff for use during a signing event. According to a reliable source, fewer than 100 were issued. This button has since become a highly collectible item. A handwritten card from the original owner, Dr. Francesca Roe, recounts her experience at the July 1998 reading and signing event in Leeds. Dr. Roe, aged eight at the time, attended the event with her parents and younger brother, Max. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is in near fine condition. The boards are bright and unfaded, with only a hint of bumping at both ends of the spine and the front corner tips. The corners of the back cover are sharp. The binding is firm, the endpapers are clean, and the pages have only minor browning at the edges. There is a small round black spot on pages 38 and 39, and a narrow brown streak on pages 139 and 140. Otherwise, the content is completely clean with no names, inscriptions, dog-eared pages, or other defects. The first-state dust jacket is also near fine. The inner flaps have very light fading along the top edge (around 4 mm), and the corner points are slightly bumped. Other than that, the dust jacket is in excellent condition, with no spine fading, shelf wear, or edge wear. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is in VG condition. The cover has some light creases, with 1 cm of wear at the base of the spine, and the corners are bumped. The first four pages show slight waviness, with a small mark on pages 7 and 46/47, and a stain on the fore edge that lightly extends onto the pages, but no names, inscriptions or other flaws. The scarce "Friend of Potter button" that comes with the books is in a fine condition. Fully authenticated by J.K. Rowling signature expert Adam Houston of The Harry Potter Specialist and includes a Letter of Authenticity (LoA), along with a collector's card containing further interesting details. Both books are housed in a custom-made Half-Leather Clamshell box.

Joanne (Kathleen) Rowling (1999) 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone', UK first deluxe edition, published by Bloomsbury. Signed on the half-title page by Rowling. Provenance: the book was signed at the Edinburgh Book Festival for an attending child in August 2004. The book is accompanied by a letter of authenticity issued by HP4U in 2010. Research reveals that Rowling indeed attended the 2004 Edinburgh Literature Festival, and that 500 lucky ticket holders were allowed to the event. The deluxe edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was published by Bloomsbury on 27 September 1999 in an edition of 4,869 copies [Errington, 2017: 15]. Condition: a well preserved copy in near fine condition for the harshest of judges. No previous owner's scribbles of any sorts, no bookplates, no stamps. The page block gilding is present. There is light thumb-soiling on the bottom of the title page as shown, and a triffle of rubbing to the spine tips otherwise as good as it gets. A wonderful copy and rare when genuinely signed. Rowling and the Harry Potter series need no introduction, a landmark book. First and Fine

Joanne (Kathleen) Rowling (1997) 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone', UK first edition, first printing, in paperback, published by Bloomsbury. Together with an original handwritten card signed by Rowling. Both items housed in a bespoke full leather solander box. The book: this is the true paperback first edition with all first issue points present: the Wendy Cooling blurb on the front panel; the rear panel bears the typo with an 'o' missing in "Philosopher's" and "Hogwarts School of Wizardry and Witchcraft" instead of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Page 53 lists 'wand' twice as called for. No dust jacket as issued. One of only 5,150 copies printed of which the majority have not survived the passage of time in such beautiful unread condition. The book is in fine condition, unread and with an unbroken spine. There are no previous owner's marks, no stamps, no bookplates. No creasing to spine or wraps whatsoever. No fading to the spine as often seen. Slight toning of paper commensurate with age. This is a natural process due to the cheap paper stock used by the publisher and inevitable over time. A superb copy, and we have never seen a better specimen. The card: handwritten on both sides, measuring 5.75″ x 4.25″, on Rowling's personal stationery card, no date but circa 2001, and addressed to Don Mackenzie. Rowling discusses her new home in Edinburgh, often referred to as the birthplace of Harry Potter and calls her garden an "enchanted place." Boldly signed by Rowling as "J.K. Rowling." Authenticated and encapsulated by PSA to an overall size of 6.5″ x 10″ Rowling writes, in full: "Dear Don, Thank you very much for your letter. I love reading about your memories of Killiechassie. Yes, the walled garden is still an enchanted place it was that that made me want the house more than anything else. And we have also found the freezer! Though I have not walked into it yet (claustrophobia). Yes, do you recognize the Killin viaduct! With best wishes JK Rowling" Edinburgh, often hailed as the birthplace of Harry Potter, has been home to J.K. Rowling since 1993, though she also owns properties elsewhere in the UK and abroad. In 2001, Rowling purchased Killiechassie, a historic country estate near Weem, approximately 74 miles north of Edinburgh, which was once owned by the Douglas family in the 19th century. The estate, situated on 12 acres along the River Tay, became the site of Rowling's marriage to Neil Murray, with the ceremony held in the estate's library on December 26, 2001. The solander box: full red goatskin with five raised bands, title, author, and first edition 1997 to the spine. Internally lined in black suedel which cushions the book and protects it perfectly in a special compartment. A luxurious presentation on the shelf whilst offering perfect protection. Rowling and Harry Potter need no further introduction. The most popular children fantasy series of the last decades which sold hundreds of million copies world wide in its over 60 languages to date. Perhaps Rowling's most important credit is that with the captivating story of a young wizard boy named Harry Potter she made reading 'cool' again for an entire generation of kids which grew up on electronic media entertainment. A highly coveted book and we are proud to be able to offer this copy to collectors conscious to the historical significance of this copy. Stored in a safety deposit box outside our premises. FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING, PAPERBACK ISSUE. AUTHOR'S PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED by J.K. ROWLING: "to Davey and Tommy great to meet you at last! J.K. Rowling." The recipient's mother is Jenny Brown, Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. Brown served as Director of Literature at the Scottish Arts Council (SAC) from 1996 through 2002. This copy comes from the Brown family via Bonhams (sale December 1, 2021, lot 165) We find just four other inscribed presentation copies of the first printing with documented provenance in public auction records. Only two of these four has a literary association (see below). In 1996 Jenny Brown, the newly appointed Director of Literature at the SAC, led an initiative to establish a new program to support authors of children's literature. The first applicant to the award for children's literature was J.K. Rowling. In 1996 Rowling received an £8000 grant from the SAC. Rowling later told the chairman of the Arts Council, Magnus Linklater, that the award "transformed her life by allowing her to pay for childcare during the whole of a year, it had allowed her to complete the second Harry Potter volume at a time when she had no prospects of success for the first" (Magnus Linklater, Prospect Magazine). NOTE: The other four inscribed presentation copies of the first printing with documented provenance found in auction records comprise: a copy inscribed to Bryony Evens, office manager at Christopher Little, Rowling's literary agency (Bonhams, 2020); a copy inscribed to a personal friend from Rowling's daughter's daycare in Edinburgh (Bonhams, 2017); a softcover printing inscribed to Rowling's father (Sotheby's, 2003); and a softcover printing inscribed to the first journalist to interview Rowling (Heritage, 2010). Bloomsbury, 1997. Octavo, publisher's pictorial wrappers (misspelling "Philospher"), paperback issue (number sequence from 10 to 1); faint trace of damp at lower margin of opening and final few leaves, typical paper toning, few creases and abrasions, laminate separated in places with minor loss.

Rowling, Joanne Kathleen (1997) 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone', UK uncorrected proof, published by Bloomsbury. Signed and inscribed by the author on the dedication page: "to Catriona long time since I have seen one of these! J.K. Rowling". Housed in a beautiful yellow full leather solander case for protection and stunning presentation on the shelf. Provenance: Catriona was the children's book buyer at a famous large Edinburgh book shop from 1995-2000. She was given this proof by the publisher's agent in 1997 and, from the start, advocated the story based on its merits. This copy was personally inscribed by Rowling during a visit to the shop in 1999. Condition: a very good specimen not restored in any way. Light creases to the wraps and shelf wear. Small ink stain to top page block. Internally clean. According to Errington [2015] and Bloomsbury records 200 proof copies have been printed. This stands against a first hardback print run of 500 copies intended for the library market and 5,150 paperbacks for the general public. Therefore, this is one of the rarest collectable Harry Potter book as not many proofs have survived the passage of time, made even scarcer by the fact that this is a signed and inscribed copy. We have only ever seen a handful of signed uncorrected proofs of the first Harry Potter titles on the market. First and Fine

The books are housed spectacularly in full leather solander boxes for perfect protection, and those in turn placed in a buckram box for easy transport or display on the shelf. No expense has been spared to create the perfect housing environment for the set whilst allowing a beautiful presentation. The set consists of: 1) Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone (1997), UK hardback first edition, first printing, published by Bloomsbury. Comes with a loose Bloomsbury bookplate signed by Rowling; all first edition points present the Wendy Cooling blurb on the front panel; the rear panel bears the typo with an o missing in Philosopher s and Hogwarts School of Wizardy and Witchcraft instead of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy. Page 53 lists wand twice as called for. No dust jacket as issued. One of only 500 copies printed of which the majority (300) went into public libraries. This is NOT an ex-library copy. It has been professionally restored (spine tips and boards' corners) by a leading conservationist in the UK and now presents in near fine condition with one closed tear to the first text page as shown. 2) Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (1998), UK first edition, first printing, published by Bloomsbury. Signed by Rowling on the title page. In near fine condition as shown 3) Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (1999), UK first edition, first printing, published by Bloomsbury. This is the second state with J.K. Rowling credited correctly on the copyright page. Signed by Rowling on the title page and by the dust jacket illustrator Cliff Wright on the opposite page. In near fine condition. 4) Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2000), UK first edition, first printing, published by Bloomsbury. This is the rarer Scottish variant printed by Omnia. Signed by Rowling on the title page. In very good condition with the page block edges showing ageing 5) Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2003), UK first edition, first printing. Signed by the author on the title page. Scarce as a signed first edition since Rowling did not do any promotional tour for this title. In very good condition with some ageing/ yellowing to the page block as shown. 6) Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2005), UK first edition, first printing, published by Bloomsbury. Signed and inscribed by the author to Mel on the title page. Exceptionally scarce to find signed as there were no promotional events for this title. 7) Harry Potter the Deathly Hallows (2007), UK first edition, first printing, published by Bloomsbury. Signed and inscribed by Rowling on the title page to Lindsey . This copy was signed at the only midnight signing event in July 2007. One of only 1,700 copies signed at the event. A wonderful set of all UK hardback first editions, first prints of the seminal Harry Potter series. Presented beautifully with the solander boxes and treasure case. Ideal for a fan, or as in investment which has beaten inflation and the stock market by far over the past 25 years and counting. First and Fine
