Scholastic, 1998. 11th printing. This book and dust jacket have most of the points of a true First Edition, other than the number line, which is 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 9/9 0/0 01 02. The next line says "Printed in the U.S.A. 37". The last line is "First American edition, October 1998". The boards have a purple diamond-embossed (quilted) pattern, with a red cloth spine. The spine has no number and says "Rowling". The dust jacket flap price is $16.95. The barcode includes the number 51695. The spine says "Rowling" and has no "Year 1" logo. The words "Harry Potter" are in raised gold letters. The back panel has a blurb by Publisher's Weekly. The spine is slanted and softened at the ends. Previous owner's name is written on the front pastedown. In a sound binding with hinges intact. The dust jacket is softened at the spine ends and has small spots of wear at the corners. There is some underside dampstain at the spine tail, not visible on the outside. In Brodart archival dust jacket protector.. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Unpriced dustjacket, book's pages stack thinner than the publisher's edition though there are the same number of pages. The book itself has no major flaws, but does show brief, minor signs of use (including very occasional light smudges to the exterior page edges). The dustjacket is very nearly flawless (slight signs of use at the spine ends, otherwise jacket looks like new). Book is otherwise quite clean and stain-free, square and straight, firm and tight in its binding, no pages loose, missing, folded, or torn. The hinges are sound and undamaged, the corners are sharp and unbumped. Internally, the book is essentially flawless, pages appear pretty much like new, and all text is crisp and legible. There is no writing, underlining, highlighting, or other such markings in the book. The dustjacket is perfectly clean and stain-free, complete and intact, no tears, no chips, no pieces missing, no folds or creases (slight signs of use at the jacket spine ends). We believe this to be a book club edition with the following points of issue: a full number line is followed by "8 9/9 0/0 01 02." "Printed in the U.S.A. 23" and then "First American edition, October 1998" appear below the number line. Boards are black (not embossed with the diamond pattern) with a maroon spine. Dust jacket is priced at $17.95. The bar code section on the jacket is cream with nothing printed above the smaller bar code. The dust jacket also features a Publishers Weekly review on the back cover. The lettering is not embossed and is a dull brown color on both the front cover and the spine. The spine of both the book and the dust jacket lack a "Year 1" badge. The jacket has the author's name as just "Rowling" though the book has "J.K." above "Rowling." This particular copy is in beautiful condition and is exceptionally clean with no writing, marks, underlining, or bookplates. No remainder marks. Not an ex-library copy. The spine is tight and crisp, and the corners are square. Boards are clean, flat and true with no evidence of wear. Dust jacket is not price-clipped and shows minimal edge wear but does have some bumping to the upper spine and some creasing along the top and bottom edges on the back cover. A great-looking, affordable alternative to a true first! This highly collectible, fine/near fine, book club copy is protected with an archival mylar dust jacket cover. Satisfaction guaranteed!

Condition: Fine/Fine The Fine HB Is a uniform bright red and is intact. There are expected minor folds at the spine end overhangs. The Fine DJ has two .2 cm professionally repaired tears at the spine ends and minor rubbing along some of the edges and upper and lower folds. Adapted by Steve Kloves into the 2001 Chris Columbus-directed film, and the first film in the series.
