Bloomsbury, 1997. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good. Early 5th impression with number line of 10,9,8,7,6,5. A generally good copy with no ownership names or inscriptions; a little foxing/browning around text block; a little page marking; some surface page creasing. One page of text neatly replaced; 3 pages with clear tape repairs. (see scans). Externally the book is quite bright with no severe damage: some wear at extremeties, a little corner bumping and a degree of fading to spine. Please ask if you require any further information.

A UK 1st Edition 10th Printing hardback copy indicated on the copyright page by the single number '10' to the print line. - This copy is a genuine UK Bloomsbury Hardback edition, not a book club edition, and is illustrated with the earlier, younger brown-haired wizard to the top of the spine and to the reverse (rather than the grey-haired wizard that appeared on later printings). - The book itself is in near fine condition with only very very light crease to the top and bottom of the spine, very light bumps to the top outside corners of the boards and very light sunning to the page block. A very slight lean. Internally, the book is complete with no tears or writing present. A pleasant copy. - The dust jacket is also in very good condition and also has the young wizard illustration on it. It has not been price clipped, but has no price shown on the dust jacket. There are two diagonal creases to the top corner of the front flap, with some very light ruffling to the top and bottom. Light surface scratching throughout, but nothing that has pierced the laminate. A nice copy overall

Here we have a very early Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone First Edition Third Print Hardback 1997, published by Bloomsbury, issued in hardback. This book is a rare First Edition Third Print and has the all important number line: 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 on the publishing page. Other special attributes include: This third printing is historically significant as it was the first printing issued with a dust jacket The Hogwarts coat of arms does not appear in this edition. The coat of arms was added to later editions. Features the young wizard smoking a pipe on back of book and dust jacket. This was later changed to the older non-smoking wizard we now see in the newer editions. The name Joanne Rowling is printed on the publishing information page. This was later changed to J.K. Rowling because it was thought it would appeal to a broader audience. This Harry Potter and the Philosopher s Stone book is a First Edition Third Print UK Bloomsbury edition and is a much sought after collectable book. Condition: There are no library stamps, no bookplates, and no previous owners inscriptions inside the book. No under linings, no scribbles, no sketches etc. inside, as often seen in other examples. Printing number line: 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1; Wendy Cooling blurb to the front board; 'wand' appears twice on page 53; 'Philosopher's' is mis-spelt 'Philospher's' to the back board and; 'Wizardry and Witchcraft' [rather than Witchcraft and Wizardry'] to the back board. This copy was formerly owned by a primary school in Leicestershire which closed its doors on January 1, 2003. It has a neat rectangular stamp to the front free end-paper as its only evidence of having formerly been owned by a school. This is a VG copy with a slight spine lean. No fading whatsoever to the spine. Slightly pushed spine tips. A touch of rubbing and minor wear to the extremities. The rear board has a couple of faint creases and there are faint scratches in places to both the front and back boards. Lifting of the laminate in just one or two places. The page block has the inevitable toning due to the poor quality of paper used. Page 19 through 21 have just the faintest damp stain to the right hand corner (hardly worth mentioning). Really clean pages. No inscriptions. The boards are really bright and vibrant and overall this is a solid VG copy. Not issued with a D/W. The hardback first edition is of legendary scarcity this being one of 300 copies that were sent to schools and libraries. It is a TOTALLY HONEST COPY with ABSOLUTELY NONE OF THE 'DREADED' RESTORATION OR 'TOUCHING UP' WHATSOEVER AND IS IN NICE SHELVABLE CONDITION. Please note: Although this has a school ownership stamp to the front free end-paper this is NOT an ex-library copy. This book is housed in a stunning, bespoke, red half-leather clamshell box.
