First published in 1924 with illustrations of E. H. Shepard (1879 1976); this is a redesigned copy of 1988. Volume begins with an introduction entitled "Just Before We Begin", asking readers to imagine for themselves who the narrator is --- might well be Christopher Robin! The 38th poem, "Teddy Bear", originally appeared in Punch magazine of Feb 1924, marks the first appearance of Winnie-the-Pooh, first named "Mr. Edward Bear" by Milne' son Christopher Robin Milne, or Billy Moon, to whom the book is dedicated. Completely clean & unmarked, bindings secure & straight, colors bright. Only flaws are that 1) all pages are moderately-heavily tanned, commensurate with age; 2) a few foxed spots around spine, heaviest on "Party Book." The slipcase, decorated on front & back with illustration of Pooh & the gang in the kitchen, is downgraded to VG+ due to light foxing/soil. Box is sturdy with some scuffing along bottom edge & light rubbing to extremities, a few deeper scraped along top & top edges. NO rips or tears. All in all a lovely & very collectible set, since it's hard to find boxed & all together like this in such nice condition!
