Hardcover. Full brown leather with gold lettering and decorations on the spine. Gold borders on the cover and large armorial crest on the front cover with the motto 'Orando Laborando' ['By Praying, by Working"] beneath. Measures 6 x 8 inches. Inside front cover has a large bookplate with design and motto 'scholae Rugbeiensis Alumno Studiis Feliciter Coeptis MDCCCC.' The book itself is 1202 pages, printed on a thin paper. Marbled fore-edges and endpapers. Pages clean and square. No marks or writing. Binding is very handsome, with only very mild wear from use. The Rugby School is in Rugby, Warwickshire England. Leather at corners and spine ends is a little worn. Lavish marbled endpapers and all edges marbled. Gold borders on the cover and large armorial crest on the front cover. Pages clean and square. No marks or writing. Binding is very handsome, with only very mild wear from use. The Rugby School is a leading independent school in Rugby, Warwickshire England. It was founded in 1567. Some faint browning to the endpapers and a couple of light pencil marks. A really handsome and attractive copy Tales of a Grandfather is a series of books on the history of Scotland, written by Sir Walter Scott beginning around 1827, and published by A & C Black. Scott also wrote books about French history in the same series.
