Only "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" is listed as 'also available', indicating a 1998 printing date. ***Very good in pictorial colour illustrated boards. The boards are clean and unmarked but slightly bowed (please see scans). Head and tail of spine just slightly creased. Corners sharp. No other bumps or creases to the boards. Fore-edge of page block slightly marked and with a small abrasion. Very slight reading lean to the binding. Spine tight. No reading creases. Internally also very good with a neat ownership name at the top of the front free endpaper, but no other annotations. Pages clean and bright - just a couple of light foxing spots to the first couple of pages, and paper stock lightly tanned as usual. No creases or tears. The colours of the book are extremely bright and unfaded. ***In a near fine colour illustrated dustwrapper, which retains the original publisher's printed price of £10.99 on the front flap. Head and tail of spine of dustwrapper just very slightly creased. No other creases, chips or tears - just a slight nick to the bottom corner of the front flap (please see scans). Only "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" is listed as 'also available', indicating a 1998 printing date, and with 'Winner of the 1997 Smarties Gold award at the bottom of the front board. ***The eighteenth impression of the hardcover issue is significant as it was the first to feature the revised old wizard illustration on the back cover. Illustrator Thomas Taylor has explained that he had been given little information when designing the original cover for "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone". When instructed to create an image of a wizard for the back cover, he used his father as a reference. He was not informed that the illustration was meant to represent Hogwarts' headmaster, Albus Dumbledore. This resulted in an image that did not accurately depict the character. The new illustration by Thomas Taylor with Dumbledore on the back cover was used starting from the 18th hardcover and 40th paperback printing. ***Near fine in pictorial colour illustrated boards. The boards are clean and unmarked without any fading at all, even to the spine. Head and tail of spine slightly creased. Corners sharp. Very slight reading lean. Spine tight. Corner creasing to pages 9-10, small corner creasing to pages at the rear from a bump, and light soil to outer edges. Light tanning to the paper due to age/paper quality.
