New York: Scholastic, 1998. First Printing. Hardcover. As New/as new. Mary Grandpre. Octavo, 309 pages, black. boards, appears unread; in a mylar dj protector. The First Printing, with complete number line, in a revised state of the dust jacket with a variant of no price on the front flap, and with the numeral '1' at top of spine, and a new review from Publishers Weekly of dj. Also, the text on the lower dj flap tells of J. K. Rowling's hard times and prizes. Scholastic used the artwork of a single illustrator across the series: Mary Grandpre. To [Arthur A.] Levine this is part of the image and branding of the series. He noted ' ... I have always said this is a classic book. This is a book that you remember when you're thirty-five and you remember when you were ten. And that was the book that changed your life. There's continuity there - when you see that on your shelf you think, wow this is that book ...' ." - [ Errington A4(c) note - reporting 35,000 copies in the first printing]. NOTE: the first american illustrated deluxe edition, in deluxe hardback, appeared in November, 2015 - see Errington A4(i).

Scholastic Press. ** 1ST PRINTING OF 1ST BOOKCLUB EDITION ** VERY GOOD HARDCOVER IN FINE DUSTJACKET ** NOT A LIBRARY BOOK ** CLEAN, STAIN-FREE, UNMARKED ** SOUND AND SOLID ** COMPLETE AND INTACT ** Published by Scholastic Press, 1st Book Club Edition, 1st Printing, with 309 pages. Full number line starting with "1" on the copyright page (see our photos). This edition is at least as scarce as is the 1st Printing of the publisher's edition. Unpriced dustjacket, book's pages stack thinner than the publisher's edition though there are the same number of pages. The book itself has no major flaws, but does show brief, minor signs of use (including very occasional light smudges to the exterior page edges). The dustjacket is very nearly flawless (slight signs of use at the spine ends, otherwise jacket looks like new). Book is otherwise quite clean and stain-free, square and straight, firm and tight in its binding, no pages loose, missing, folded, or torn. The hinges are sound and undamaged, the corners are sharp and unbumped. Internally, the book is essentially flawless, pages appear pretty much like new, and all text is crisp and legible. There is no writing, underlining, highlighting, or other such markings in the book. The dustjacket is perfectly clean and stain-free, complete and intact, no tears, no chips, no pieces missing, no folds or creases (slight signs of use at the jacket spine ends). Buy with confidence, professional booksellers for 35 years, selling books online since 1995. B75. . Very Good. Hardcover. 1st Book Club Edition. 1st Printing. 1998.

New York, New York, U.S.A.: Arthur a Levine, 1998. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. The first book in the series introduces boy wizard Harry Potter. We believe this to be a book club edition with the following points of issue: a full number line is followed by "8 9/9 0/0 01 02." "Printed in the U.S.A. 23" and then "First American edition, October 1998" appear below the number line. Boards are black (not embossed with the diamond pattern) with a maroon spine. Dust jacket is priced at $17.95. The bar code section on the jacket is cream with nothing printed above the smaller bar code. The dust jacket also features a Publishers Weekly review on the back cover. The lettering is not embossed and is a dull brown color on both the front cover and the spine. The spine of both the book and the dust jacket lack a "Year 1" badge. The jacket has the author's name as just "Rowling" though the book has "J.K." above "Rowling." This particular copy is in beautiful condition and is exceptionally clean with no writing, marks, underlining, or bookplates. No remainder marks. Not an ex-library copy. The spine is tight and crisp, and the corners are square. Boards are clean, flat and true with no evidence of wear. Dust jacket is not price-clipped and shows minimal edge wear but does have some bumping to the upper spine and some creasing along the top and bottom edges on the back cover. A great-looking, affordable alternative to a true first! This highly collectible, fine/near fine, book club copy is protected with an archival mylar dust jacket cover. Satisfaction guaranteed!

Harry Potter spent ten long years living with Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, an aunt and uncle whose outrageous favoritism of their perfectly awful son Dudley leads to some of the most inspired dark comedy since Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. But fortunately for Harry, he's about to be granted a scholarship to a unique boarding school called THE HOGWORTS SCHOOL OF WITCHCRAFT AND WIZARDRY, where he will become a school hero at the game of Quidditch (a kind of aerial soccer played high above the ground on broomsticks), he will make some wonderful friends, and, unfortunately, a few terrible enemies. For although he seems to be getting your run-of-the-mill boarding school experience (well, ok, even that's pretty darn out of the ordinary), Harry Potter has a destiny that he was born to fulfill. A destiny that others would kill to keep him from.

NY: Scholastic, 1998. Book Club Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. 1998 Scholastic 1st (and possibly Book Club) Edition, 1st printing with a full number line. It is in F/F condition. Compared to the first printings, this is distinctly different in the following ways: 1. It has purple/black boards, not embossed boards 2. "JK Rowling" (not just Rowling) is at the top of the spine. 3. Similar to true 1st editions of the book, there is no number "1" inside a herald-like border on the spine of either the HB or the DJ. 4. On the copyright page is the full number line. 5. Unlike most book club editions, the DJ is priced at $17.95. The original price of the true first edition is $16.95 6. The DJ is flat-printed, not embossed as in the first pressings. Nonetheless, it appears to be a rare, early, unread edition and, therefore, a great value.
