10" x 7", quarter red cloth / yellow papered hardcover, gilt titles to spine, maroon eps, pp. [I - VI] VII - LXIV, 1 - 560 incl. index, illustrated by b & w reproductions and maps. 1987 first edition, book and protected dw both very good, small chip to the base of the dw spine.
Clean, bright and tight copy with unclipped dj protected in mylar. Dj has some bumped and creased areas at the top of both the rear and front panels (somewhat inconspicuous under mylar). There is a 1-2 square-inch area on the dj's rear panel that is discolored. It appears to the a publisher defect.
Pp.: lxiv + 560. Gilt tiles: sp. Ilust. w/ b/w engravings, maps. Interior leaves clean, crisp and tight. Here are the twenty-six Marshals of Empire, who served Napoleon as his principle field commanders throughout the imperial era. All were ennobled with imperial titles for their loyalty and military ability to command armies and win victories. Some betrayed their emperor, while others remained steadfast. The editor has collected eminent military scholars who have contributed biographical chapters for each of these intriguing and stalwart French commanders. The chapters include textual references, biographical note. and chronology. Included are appendices and index. Excellent history, edited by a noted British military historian.
