Lacks a final unnumbered leaf containing an order to print. Translated from the original French edition of 1648 which was titled "Discours politiques des roys."

The author presents the history and achievements of several leaders including French, English, Spanish, and Swedish monarchs, alongside Tamerlane, Mehmed II, and Suleiman II. This copy is the first issue, with the dedication leaf "to true honor and renown", afterwards cancelled following the Restoration in 1660 with a dedication to King Charles. ESTC R17187; Wing S2141. Folio (276 x 170 mm). Contemporary calf, early red morocco label, new endpapers to style. Engraved title page, 11 portraits. Complete with imprimatur leaf. Slight wear at extremities, minor superficial splits to joints, slight staining at head of title page and plates. A very good copy.
