The first edition, second issue of a geographical study of the world by Hendrik Willem van Loon (1882-1944), Dutch-American historian and children's book author. Van Loon first won fame with a short story, The Story of Mankind (1921), which received the first Newbery medal, and also served as an illustrator for many of his own works, being known for his black pen and ink drawings. F. S. Marvin praised the volume in the July 1933 issue of Nature magazine, commenting that 'his knowledge of the world is made vivid by his travels'. Size: 8vo
