This book is a later printing with a price on 3.95 on the front flap of the dust jacket. The book is in wonderful condition with clean interior pages and a pictorial cover showing Fern and the farm animals. The dust jacket cover is the same. There is a very tiny bit of wear along the edge of the bottom spine. The greatest thing about the book is the inscription by E B White where he writes to a group of school children " greetings to the children who gave this book their votes. E B White" . Picture available upon request.

Octavo (20.75cm); original pictorial cloth boards; pictorial endpapers; dustjacket; [viii],184pp; illus. Inscribed by the author on the half-title page: "For Tony Maramarco / with greetings from E.B. White." Base of spine a little nudged, three corners gently bumped (though still sharp); Near Fine. Dustjacket is unclipped (priced $4.95), gently spine-sunned and lightly edgeworn, with shallow loss to upper front flap fold, some light dust-soil and a few faint stains to rear panel; Very Good+. Laid into this copy is a one-page TLS (dated July 3, 1979) to the recipient from Robert Bruce, newly President Emeritus of Colby College, relating the circumstances behind White inscribing this copy. "Yesterday afternoon we did have a visit with E.B White. He is old and lonely and he just isn't very well. It is sad that he has lost so much of his vigor. But the old spark was there from time to time, and we had some awfully good talk over cocktails and dinner. He very kindly agreed to inscribe two copies of Charlotte's Web, one for you (and I presume young Tony), the other for Darby Drew. They are on their way to you under separate cover." Typed letter on white bond (measuring 8.5" x 11"); 22 lines (195 words), signed "As always, Bob." A few old folds, else Near Fine. Attractive copy of White's beloved book, a barnyard story which has enchanted generations of readers since it was published in 1952. A Newbery Honoree, and basis for two well-received film adaptations – a 1973 animated film and a more recent production by Gary Winick (2006), starring Dakota Fanning, Julia Roberts, and Oprah Winfrey. Authentically signed or inscribed copies are uncommon; White was publicity-shy, anxious in large crowds, and struggled with Alzheimer's later in life, so copies with provenance this clear are quite unusual.

Inscribed later printing of the modern children's classic, an exploration of innocence and change, death and courage. One spider's efforts to save a pig from slaughter charmed audiences immediately upon publication, showing that "that human beings must always be on the watch for the coming of wonders." The book was published by Harper under the editorship of Ursula Nordstrom, who was the primary force in fashioning modern children's literature away from morality and education towards imagination and affection. While the inscription is in a later reprint likely dating from the time it was signed (1983), White was not known for signing many books, making this is a special copy. Newbery Honor Award. 8'' x 5''. Original full tan cloth, front board and spine stamped in blue with illustrated title. Original pictorial dust jacket. Blue web-patterned endpapers. Illustrated with black-and-white line drawings by Garth Williams throughout. [8], 184 pages. Inscribed by White on half title: "Salutations! E.B. White and thanks for your gift to the Center," dates March 1983. Single small tape repair to verso of jacket. Slightest bit of edgewear at foot of jacket spine.

First edition. First issue, with 'First edition, I-B' on verso title page as required. Original publisher's pictorial cloth in (supplied) dustwrapper. Author's presentation copy, inscribed to friend and fellow novelist, Elizabeth Taylor on the front end paper, "For Elizabeth Taylor / and I do like Irish whiskey / E B White". A very good copy, with some toning to the spine and a little wear to the spine ends and slight looseness to the initial pages. The dustwrapper is near fine, clean and bright with trivial wear and a thin chip to one corner. Colour dustwrapper by Garth Williams and numerous line drawings in the text also by Williams. Elizabeth Taylor, the critically regarded British novelist, described by Kingsley Amis as "One of the best English novelists born this century", whose writing career was forced into relative obscurity as a consequence of coinciding with the rise of her more famous namesake, the American actress. Her style was in the mould of Ivy Compton-Burnett, Barbara Pym and Elizabeth Bowen, and has only recently been recognised as one of the most important authors of the twentieth century. She wrote twelve novels and many short stories, most of which were originally published in The New Yorker, where E.B. White's wife, Katherine, was her first editor. Taylor rarely travelled to America so did not often meet White, but they became good friends via a long and frequent correspondence. Charlotte's Web was one of Taylor's favourite books and was a story she read aloud to her grandchildren. E.B.White was known to be a great fan of whiskey, often having a bottle to hand to offer guests and storing all his manuscripts in old whiskey boxes. Presentation copies of Charlotte's Web of significant literary association are genuinely rare.
