Harry Potter is an ordinary boy who lives in a cupboard under the stairs at his Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon's house, which he thinks is normal for someone like him who's parents have been killed in a 'car crash'. He is bullied by them and his fat, spoilt cousin Dudley, and lives a very unremarkable life with only the odd hiccup (like his hair growing back overnight!) to cause him much to think about. That is until an owl turns up with a letter addressed to Harry and all hell breaks loose! He is literally rescued by a world where nothing is as it seems and magic lessons are the order of the day. Read and find out how Harry discovers his true heritage at Hogwarts School of Wizardry and Witchcraft, the reason behind his parents mysterious death, who is out to kill him, and how he uncovers the most amazing secret of all time, the fabled Philosopher's Stone! All this and muggles too. Now, what are they? A readable copy of the book which may include some defects such as highlighting and notes. Cover and pages may be creased and show discolouration.
First Edition / Thirty-Third Print (number line on copyright page 40 39 38 37 36 35 34 33). paperback copy, no dustjacket as issued. 223pp. Young Dumbledore to rear cover and spine, 'Joanne Rowling' printed to copyright page. Not library copy, no inscriptions, no creasing to spine. ()
Twenty-fifth impression of the true first edition with number-string sequence 25 26 27 28 29 30 at the bottom of the printer's page. Also stated 'Harry Potter, names, characters and related inidcia are copyright and trademark Warner Bros., 2000 TM' - indicating a publication date of 2000. However, only "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" is listed as 'also available', even though "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" was published in 1999. ***Very good in pictorial colour illustrated boards. The boards are clean and unmarked, with virtually no fading even to the spine colours. The head and tail of the spine are just very creased. Corners sharp - just slightly creased at the corner tips on the front board. There is no reading lean to the binding and the page block edges are just lightly foxed - tanned as usual. Internally also very good with no ownership details or other annotations. There is some straining to the gutter of the page block at the half-title page which is often found due to the cheap binding quality of these books. No internal foxing - interior pages clean. The top corner of p.39/40 has been creased by a previous owner (please see scans). The cheap paper stock is tanned as usual. The colours of the book are extremely bright and unfaded. ***In a very good colour illustrated dustwrapper, which has not been price-clipped, retaining the original publisher's printed price of £10.99 on the front flap. The dustwrapper is complete, but please note there is a small red ink stain at the bottom edge of the front panel near the spine - mostly affecting the back of the wrapper but can also be seen on the outside (please see scans). Some very light rubbing to the edges but no creases, chips or tears. There is some sun-fading to the colours on the spine - mainly to the purple which has faded to blue (please see scans). ***223 pages. 206mm x 136mm. ***An early twenty-fifth impression of the true first edition of "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone", in its original dustwrapper, in very good original condition, albeit with the above-mentioned faults. Being such a popular children's book, copies in nice condition are far from easy to find now. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.
